Presentation of the Institute

Crans Montana IUHEI

The Crans Montana Graduate Institute of International Studies (IUHEI) is an initiative of the Crans Montana Forum. Its strategic partner is the International University of Monaco. This partnership is unique at the international level.

The Crans Montana IUHEI organizes post-graduate Courses which aim to inform and train according to the following criteria:

- The Courses are short and intensive

- Their content is private and confidential

- They are reserved to limited groups of Participants, strictly selected like Ministers, Governors of Central Banks, Prime Ministers or Ministers’ Advisors for Economy, Finance, European Affairs, World Affairs, Security, Government Experts, Public Affairs directors in different areas, business firms’ CEOs, and so forth and so on

- By itself the group of Participants must be interactive and conducive to synergies

- The Crans Montana IUHEI teaching staff includes (depending on the programs) renowned professors from the most prestigious academic institutes but above all CEOs from important groups, Governmental and political leaders, key International Organizations executives and key Experts

arrows Aim of the Seminars

The aim of these Courses is to provide an excellent training and informative session, since the participants have for daily task to define or help to define the government and business firm policies within an interactive and intensive setting.

These Courses are also an opportunity for the international players at the highest level to meet and engage in confidential exchanges with their counterparts.

A well-spread gamut of programs is proposed to the different levels of potential participants in the numerous concerned countries, according to the theme.

A very particular attention is given to the Euro-Mediterranean countries and more broadly to the emerging economies and transition countries.

Programs can also be defined according to governments’ specific needs, and Courses are then likely to take place in the host country.

For instance, a set of programs are specifically devoted to the EU candidate countries and to countries which benefit from an association agreement with the European Union.

Those countries’ leaders need to acquire a knowledge as well as some experience but also they need personal contacts in order to improve their relationships with Western governments, political institutions and international financial institutions. Besides, they need to train their closest counsellors. As a matter of fact, it is the professional quality of these counselors and emissaries that really illustrates and conveys the image and credibility of the States and of their leaders. The personality and ambitions of the new generations of leaders must illustrate the credibility and the objectives of domestic policies that are implemented in the home country.

The program also aims at providing an insight in the description and understanding of national and international financial institutions, in particular as sources of funding are concerned, in order for each country to reach its objectives and successfully implement its projects.

Moreover more specialized and differentiated programs are proposed to the private sector. CEOs of corporations need to gather information and knowledge in a large variety of topics: corporate management, ethics, quality standards, rules of origin, and distribution characteristics, whether it is in the European Union, in the NAFTA and on other markets; topics of interest also comprise information on the potential access to key markets and explanation of protectionist methods, marketing and advertising, business law, as well as conditions for the creation of subsidiaries, relocation of staff, tax regimes, rules of foreign investment, etc.

The Graduate Institute of International Studies of Monte-Carlo is an initiative of the Crans Montana Forum and of the International University of Monaco.

Since its creation the course activities have developed very quickly. A new Branch was recently opened in Vienna (Austria) at the end of 2007.

Another much larger branch will soon be inaugurated in Manama (Kingdom of Bahrein) whose activities, implemented by the anti-terrorist Judge Jean-Louis Bruguière under the patronage of the Ministry of the Interior of Bahrein and the Gulf Cooperation Council, will be essentially oriented towards Homeland & Global Security in the Middle East.

Other partnerships are presently in the preparation stage, notably with Transparency International and the Centre for Leading Change which works in collaboration with the Gallup Group.
